Varshphal: your year read from the solar return, not the calendar
A Varshphal is the Tajika annual chart, cast for the exact moment the Sun returns to its natal sidereal position. It gives you the year's Muntha, its year lord (Varshesha) and the Mudda dasha periods inside it — so the year has structure and dates rather than a mood. Included with Pro and Guru, calculated from your existing birth chart.
Your astrological year does not start on your birthday
It starts at the solar return — the instant the Sun reaches the exact sidereal longitude it held when you were born. Depending on the year and your birth time, that can fall a day either side of your calendar birthday, and the annual chart is cast for that moment and your current location, not your birthplace. Cast it for the wrong instant and every house cusp in the year chart shifts.
What the annual chart gives you
- Muntha — the progressed point that moves one house per year of life. Where it sits is where the year concentrates.
- Varshesha (year lord) — selected by the Tajika strength rules from five candidates, then read in its annual condition.
- Mudda dasha — the year divided into periods, so guidance has dates attached rather than floating across twelve months.
- Tajika aspects — the annual system's own aspect rules, which differ from the natal graha drishti you may already know.
- Read against the natal chart — the year can only activate what the birth chart already promises. You are told which.
What it will not do
It will not predict events you have no natal indication for, and it will not override your Vimshottari dasha — the annual chart is a finer-grained layer on top of the longer cycle, not a replacement for it. Where the two disagree, the longer period usually wins, and you are told when that is the case rather than pretending the year chart settles it.
Common questions
What is a Varshphal?
The annual chart in the Tajika (Varshaphala) system, cast for the moment the Sun returns to the exact sidereal longitude it held at your birth. That solar return is your astrological new year, and it rarely lands on your calendar birthday.
How is it different from my birth chart?
The birth chart is fixed for life and describes the whole pattern. The Varshphal is a one-year overlay read against it — it tells you which part of the natal promise is active this year, not what your life is about.
What is the Muntha?
A progressed point that advances one house per year of life from the natal ascendant. The house it occupies is a strong pointer to where the year concentrates, and its lord matters as much as its position.
What is the year lord?
The Varshesha, chosen from five candidates by the Tajika strength rules. It sets the tone of the year, and its condition in the annual chart matters more than its natal condition.
When should I have it cast?
Shortly before your solar return, so the year is ahead of you rather than half spent. A Varshphal read in month nine is a post-mortem.
