Vedic compatibility, with the whole Ashtakoot breakdown shown

Compatibility here means the eight Ashtakoot kootas scored out of 36, plus a Mangal Dosha (Manglik) check with its classical cancellations — each factor shown separately, in plain language, rather than collapsed into one number you cannot interrogate. Included with Pro (3 reports a month) and Guru (5 a month). For a one-off match, use Kundli Matching.

The eight kootas, and what each one actually governs

Most matching tools give you a total and stop. The total is the least useful part, because two couples can both score 24 out of 36 for completely different reasons — one weak on temperament, the other on lineage and progeny indicators. Those are not the same conversation.

  • Varna (1 point) — working temperament and how each person approaches duty.
  • Vashya (2) — the balance of influence between the two.
  • Tara (3) — birth-star compatibility and mutual fortune.
  • Yoni (4) — physical and instinctive compatibility.
  • Graha Maitri (5) — friendship between the two Moon lords; mental affinity.
  • Gana (6) — temperament class, and where friction tends to show up.
  • Bhakoot (7) — the Moon-sign axis; heavily weighted, and a common silent failure.
  • Nadi (8) — the largest single weight, tied to constitution and progeny.

Where a high score can still mislead

Bhakoot and Nadi together carry 15 of the 36 points. A match can lose both and still land near 21, which reads as "acceptable" on a scale that treats every point as equal. It is not equal. The two heavy kootas are shown explicitly, flagged when either has failed, with a note on whether a classical exception applies — because the exceptions are where most real readings turn.

Manglik, without the fear-selling

Mangal Dosha gets used to frighten people. The classical texts are considerably more measured: several placements cancel it outright, and the cancellations are as much a part of the tradition as the flag itself. Mars is assessed in both charts, the cancellations are applied, and you are told plainly whether anything survives them.

How the calculation is done

Both charts are cast to professional astronomical accuracy in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa — the same basis used throughout the site. Nakshatra and pada come from the true Moon longitude rather than a lookup table, which is why an accurate birth time changes the result.

Common questions

What is Ashtakoot Guna Milan?

It is the eight-factor comparison Vedic astrology uses for marriage matching: Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. Each carries a weight and together they total 36 points. The score is a starting point for reading the match, not a verdict on its own.

Is a score out of 36 the whole answer?

No. Bhakoot and Nadi carry the heaviest weights and can fail while the total still looks acceptable, so the breakdown matters more than the headline number. Every koota is shown separately with what it governs.

Do you check Manglik (Mangal Dosha)?

Yes. Mars placement is assessed for both charts, along with the classical cancellations that are routinely ignored elsewhere. A Manglik flag on its own tells you very little without checking whether it is cancelled.

What do you need from us?

Date, time and place of birth for both people. The Moon changes nakshatra roughly every day and several kootas are calculated from the Moon, so a rough birth time weakens the reading. If you only know it approximately, say so and read the result with that in mind.

Which plan includes compatibility?

Compatibility reports are part of Pro (3 per month) and Guru (5 per month). For a single match rather than a subscription, the standalone Kundli Matching page is the better route.
