Sade Sati Dates for All 12 Rashis: When Yours Starts, When It Ends
Sade Sati arrives for every Moon sign roughly once every 29 to 30 years, and it lasts about seven and a half. Right now — with Saturn transiting Pisces — only three rashis carry it: Kumbha (Aquarius), Meena (Pisces) and Mesha (Aries). If your Janma Rashi is one of the other nine, you are not in Sade Sati today, and the question you actually want answered is when does mine begin?
This page answers that for all twelve rashis: your last cycle, your next cycle, and the exact dates Saturn crosses each sign. All dates are sidereal, calculated on the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa — the standard of Vedic Jyotish.
One thing first, because it decides everything below: Sade Sati is read from your Moon sign, not your Sun sign. If you have only ever checked a Western horoscope, your Sade Sati status is very likely wrong.
What Sade Sati actually is
Sade Sati — sadhe sati, "the seven and a half" — is the stretch when Saturn (Shani) transits the three signs centred on your Janma Rashi, the sign holding the Moon at your birth:
- the 12th from your Moon (the rising phase)
- your Moon sign itself (the peak phase)
- the 2nd from your Moon (the setting phase)
Saturn takes roughly two and a half years to cross a sign, so three signs take about seven and a half years. Because Saturn completes the zodiac in about 29.5 years, Sade Sati returns to each rashi roughly once every three decades — most people meet it two or three times in a lifetime.
This is classical gochara (transit) doctrine, measured from the Moon rather than the ascendant. Our complete guide to Sade Sati covers the mechanics in full, and what the classical texts actually say traces it back to Phaladeepika and the transit principles of the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
Who is in Sade Sati right now (August 2026)
Saturn entered Pisces on 29 March 2025 and remains there through 2027. That places three Moon signs in the cycle simultaneously:
| Moon sign | Saturn's position | Phase | Ends |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kumbha (Aquarius) | 2nd from Moon | Setting — final stretch | 23 Feb 2028 |
| Meena (Pisces) | Over the Moon | Peak | 17 Apr 2030 |
| Mesha (Aries) | 12th from Moon | Rising | 31 May 2032 |
Saturn is retrograde as you read this. Shani turned retrograde in Pisces on 27 July 2026 and stays retrograde until 11 December 2026, moving backwards from about 20° to 14° of Pisces.
Retrograde Saturn does not restart or extend your Sade Sati — the sign boundaries are what count, and Saturn does not leave Pisces during this retrograde. What it tends to do is turn the pressure inward. Unfinished matters resurface, decisions made in haste come back for review, and progress feels stalled rather than blocked. Read it as Saturn's revision period: the work of these months is honest reassessment, not new launches.
For the phase-by-phase detail on these three signs, see Sade Sati 2026–2028: dates and affected rashis.

A note on precision: dates in the next few years are firm. Dates decades out are calculated projections of Saturn's motion and may shift by a day or two as the exact ingress moment is refined — treat the month as reliable, the day as approximate.
The Saturn transits behind the table
Every date above comes from one thing: the moment Saturn changes sign. Here is that underlying sequence, which you can use to work out any Sade Sati, Dhaiya or Saturn return yourself.
Recent and current:
- 26 Jan 2017 — Saturn enters Sagittarius (retrogrades back, permanent 26 Oct 2017)
- 24 Jan 2020 — Saturn enters Capricorn
- 29 Apr 2022 — Saturn first enters Aquarius (retrogrades back, permanent 17 Jan 2023)
- 29 Mar 2025 — Saturn enters Pisces
Ahead:
- 3 Jun 2027 — Saturn first enters Aries. Kumbha gets its first taste of relief; Meena's peak begins to ease.
- 20 Oct 2027 — Saturn retrogrades back into Pisces. A brief return of familiar pressure.
- 23 Feb 2028 — Saturn re-enters Aries permanently. This is the true end of Kumbha's Sade Sati.
- 17 Apr 2030 — Saturn settles in Taurus, closing Meena's Sade Sati.
- 31 May 2032 — Saturn enters Gemini, closing Mesha's Sade Sati.
Because of that October 2027 retrograde, Aquarius Moon natives should not treat June 2027 as a clean finish. The first crossing lifts the weight; the February 2028 crossing removes it. The wider arc is covered in our guide to Saturn in Pisces 2025–2027.
"I'm not in Sade Sati — so why does this feel heavy?"
A fair question, and there is usually a real answer. Sade Sati is not Saturn's only transit pressure.
Shani Dhaiya — sometimes called the small panoti — is Saturn's 2.5-year passage through the 4th or 8th from your Moon. It is shorter than Sade Sati but often felt more sharply. With Saturn in Pisces, Dhanu (Sagittarius) Moon is under Kantaka Shani (4th) and Simha (Leo) Moon is under Ashtama Shani (8th), both until February 2028. If you are one of those two signs and wondered why the table above says "clear", this is why. See Shani Dhaiya: Kantaka and Ashtama Shani.
Shani Mahadasha or Antardasha. A Saturn dasha period runs on its own clock, independent of transits, and can bring Saturn's themes at any age. Our Shani Mahadasha guide explains the 19-year cycle.
Your Saturn return. Around ages 29–30 and 58–59, Saturn comes back to its natal position — a distinct maturation point that often overlaps with, but is not the same as, Sade Sati. See the Saturn return guide.
So five Moon signs currently carry a significant Saturn transit: Kumbha, Meena and Mesha in Sade Sati, plus Dhanu and Simha in Dhaiya.
What Sade Sati is actually for
It is worth saying plainly, because the internet is full of dread on this subject: Sade Sati is not a punishment, and it is not seven and a half years of misfortune.
Shani is the lord of karma, consequence and time. His transit over the Moon — the mind, the emotions, the inner sense of comfort — strips away what was built carelessly and tests what was built well. People commonly report that Sade Sati was the hardest period of their life and the one that made them who they are. Careers change direction. Illusions about people fall away. Responsibility arrives earlier than wanted. What is genuinely yours survives.
The classical texts are also clear that Sade Sati is not uniformly difficult. Its severity depends on Saturn's dignity in your own chart, its house lordships from your ascendant, and whether Saturn is a functional benefic for you. For a Kumbha or Tula ascendant, Saturn is a friend, and Sade Sati can coincide with real advancement — hard-won, but real.
And afterwards? The period immediately following Sade Sati is one of the most constructive in a Saturn cycle. The discipline stays; the pressure lifts. Makara (Capricorn) Moon natives, who came out of Sade Sati in March 2025, are in exactly that window now.
Practical remedies through any Saturn period
Remedies in Jyotish are not switches that cancel a transit. They are disciplines that align you with Saturn's own values — patience, honesty, service and steadiness. Practised sincerely, they genuinely settle the mind through a hard stretch.
- Recite the Hanuman Chalisa. Hanuman is traditionally held to soften Shani's severity. Tuesdays and Saturdays are the customary days.
- Chant Saturn's beej mantra. "Om Sham Shanaischaraya Namah", repeated with real attention, especially on Saturdays.
- Serve those Saturn signifies. The elderly, the poor, labourers and the unwell fall under Shani. Quiet, consistent service to them is considered the most effective Saturn remedy of all. Donate black sesame (til), mustard oil, black cloth or iron on Saturdays, and light a mustard-oil lamp.
- Live Saturn's discipline. Keep your word. Meet your obligations. Avoid shortcuts, especially in money and speech. Saturn rewards the person who does the unglamorous thing well, and exposes the one who does not.
- Protect rest and routine. During the peak phase in particular, guard your sleep, eat regularly, and do not make irreversible decisions from a place of exhaustion.
A caution on gemstones: blue sapphire (neelam) is Saturn's stone, but it is powerfully reactive. Never self-prescribe it. It should be worn only after careful analysis of your own chart by a qualified astrologer.
The bottom line
Sade Sati visits each rashi roughly once every 29 to 30 years and lasts about seven and a half. As of August 2026, it holds Kumbha, Meena and Mesha Moon signs — Kumbha finishing on 23 February 2028, Meena on 17 April 2030, Mesha on 31 May 2032. Every other rashi can read its next cycle from the table above; the nearest is Vrishabha (Taurus), beginning 3 June 2027.
Saturn is retrograde in Pisces until 11 December 2026 — a period for review and honest reassessment rather than new beginnings.
If the dates matter to you, get the Moon sign right first. That single detail decides everything on this page, and a great many people have it wrong.
Sade Sati is decided by your Moon sign, not your Sun sign — and most people have never checked their true Janma Rashi. Generate your free Vedic birth chart on GuruJi.ai to find your Moon sign and see exactly where Saturn stands for you today.
